Home to some of the world’s premier ski resorts, North America attracts a league of adventure-seeking ski enthusiasts, making for a distinctive atmosphere and a wonderful time for your students. However, since it’s such a long distance to travel, why not enrich your trip further with a dash of urban exploration? At Equity, we can combine school ski trips with a brief city stopover, offering an all-encompassing and enriching experience for your group.

With both day and night ski available at many of our North American ski resorts, our school ski trips offer student groups plenty of time to learn the ropes and perfect their abilities. And the adventure doesn't stop there. At the tail end of their trip, school groups on many of our USA or Canada ski trips can look forward to swapping the twinkling lights of their ski resort for the bright lights of some of the region’s biggest cities, from New York and Boston to Toronto and Quebec.

In this blog, we’ll introduce you to some of the best city breaks that can seamlessly integrate with your ski itinerary. By combining physical activity with cultural exploration, you'll provide your students with a holistic experience, and memories to last a lifetime. Now, let’s dive into some exciting city options to complement your ski trip.

Skiing in East Coast USA? Why not visit… Boston or New York

With the incredible ski resorts of Cannon & Waterville, Killington, Sugarloaf, Loon, and Whiteface, there’s no wonder so many of our schools opt to visit the East Coast for a USA school ski trip. But did you know that within just a few hours' drive, you can find yourself amidst the bustling streets of Boston or New York City?

Boston, Massachusetts

One of the most popular USA options for our school tour groups, Boston lies approximately two to three hours from most New Hampshire ski resorts, and offers school groups a variety of impressive sights covering history, culture, and culinary delights. Follow the Freedom Trail, visit the iconic Fenway Park stadium, and enjoy shopping at the Prudential Center – these experiences provide invaluable insights into American history and culture, offering the perfect end to any school trip.

New York City, New York

With many of our East Coast ski trips flying directly into New York, this magnificent global city is a no-brainer when adding a stopover at the end of your school ski trip. Here, students will love visiting all the landmarks they know from popular culture, like Times Square, Central Park, and the Statue of Liberty, as well as one of the five main observation towers in the city (choosing from Empire State Building, the Summit, Top of the Rock, The Edge, or One World). Many of our groups also opt to extend snow sports into their ski trips with an ice hockey match; if this isn’t available, a Hershey’s Chocolate Tour and visit to Ellen’s Stardust Diner are also really popular options for tying up your trip before your journey back to the UK.

Skiing in Canada? Why not visit… Toronto

Whether you’re travelling to the powdery Canadian pistes of Mont Sainte Anne, Tremblant, Bromont or Jasper, all it takes is a brief a flight transfer to find yourselves in Canada’s most famous and populous city: Toronto.

Toronto

Famous for its skyscrapers, green spaces, shopping, and the iconic CN Tower, Toronto offers an excellent destination for student groups finishing off a ski trip (in fact, it’s our Canada ski groups’ favourite place to go post-ski!). Experience the bustle of Yonge–Dundas Square, shop at the Eaton Centre, or immerse yourselves in the bohemian vibes of Kensington Market – there’s something for all student groups in Toronto.

Ready to add a city stopover to your next ski trip?

Integrating a brief city visit into your school ski trip adds an extra layer of excitement and enrichment, and having a well-rounded trip can make it all the more memorable – especially when travelling so far away. Whether you choose to explore the historical charm of Boston, the iconic sights of New York City, or the vibrant energy of Toronto, your students are sure to come away with unforgettable memories and newfound knowledge. So, pack your bags, hit the slopes, and get ready for an adventure of a lifetime!
